My Pockets worked with Hull University to create this film about the Hull Poverty Truth Commission.
The Poverty Truth Commission is a remarkable project that brings people together to find ways to tackle poverty. Decision makers, people in power, people who run services meet and get to know people who are affected by poverty.
The relationships and conversations that follow have changed the way people think and the way they are treated.
As we got to know everyone involved and understood more about the project we decided to make the film by hand. We didn't want to animate the film digitally as it felt as though many of the issues the project was challenging were caused by the distance that our digital world has created between people. We wanted the animation to be physical, just as poverty is physical.
So we printed out video frames and drew on them with ink, felt tips and crayons, cut things out, stuck things on and then scanned it all back into the computer.
The film was screened at a large event to celebrate the first stage of the project and has been screened and shared with other Poverty Truth Commissions across the UK.
Animated and produced from our base in East Yorkshire
