We have been working with Barnardos to create this animation to encourage young people to get involved with their leaving care service. Teenagers in care can often face a difficult time as they leave the support that they have had in their childhood. The Barnardos Leaving Care Service helps make their first steps into adult life as a smooth as possible. My Pockets collaborated with leaving care workers and young care leavers to make this quirky film.
It was important to all of us that the young people in the film were not portrayed as victims, or as only being sad. We wanted to reflect the truth that young people in care are characterful, often eccentric and always resilient and inspiring. This animation was created with real voices of young people in the Barnardos leaving care service and all the characters are based on the actual teenagers who voiced them.
